A Group Of Chinese Export Porcelain Tablewares Decorated With American Ships

Circa 1800


including a drum-form teapot decorated with ship flying a Naval "Jack"; two tea bowls, one saucer, and a spoon holder decorated with a ship flying two American flags; together with a coffee cup decorated with English vessels.

Height 6 inches (teapot).

Condition
saucer: old hairline and several knicks or small chips along rim, glaze imperfection to underside, and slight wear or rubbing to well; saucer 1: with a few hairlines and a firing flaw along rim; saucer 2: with a few prominent darkened hairlines and a rim chip and a couple fleabites along rim; teacup: with minor roughness to underside of foot; spoon rest: with some areas of discoloration, primarily to underside, and some minor wear or rubbing to well, a few dark flecks or glaze loss or firing imperfections; teapot: with some discoloration to glaze surface, primarily to underside of pot and lid, raised decoration to handle terminals with overall enamel loss, with possible re-baking- the spout showing some inconsistencies in glaze in some areas

Provenance:According to family tradition, the tea bowls, saucer, and spoon holders belonged to Israel Trask (1765-1816) of Gloucester, Massachusetts. A tea bowl and saucer bear adhesive label of Shreve, Crump & Low Co., Boston, June 23, 1949,Property of a Mid-Atlantic Institution.
